Lawry’s good high tea deal

I’ve never been to Lawry’s all the while it was at the Paragon, mainly because its piece de resistance is beef and I’m not into beef at all, as explained in great detail here.

However, i finally got persuaded by a friend to go to Lawry’s today,  for what the restaurant, now based in the Mandarin Gallery, calls its Afternoon Indulgence, priced at $15+++ per person.

For that money, a diner gets to choose 1 savoury item and 1 sweet item from its menu (see below)

After about 2 hours of chit chat with ST and her Japanese friend A, served by waits — who were as demurely dressed as some fairy tale lasses and as patient — and having had our fill of the food and drinks, I will say Lawry’s Indulgence is a good deal.

wot ST had

ST and A went for the Prime Rib Yorkshire Roll Up which they had be4 on an earlier visit while I chose Sautéed Cream of Mushroom with Garlic Bread.

From the sweets menu, I chose Strawberries ala Chocolate while the other two asked for the Sweets of the Day which turned out to be a generous square of tiramisu.

ST chose the “finest Italian coffee” which came with a generous serving of fresh cream while I had camomille tea — the real kind, not the kind that come in tea bags.

our sweet endings

With bargains like this, I don’t see why people would want to go to St Regis for their $15 a cuppa coffee and then to be lectured by the hotel about its ambience, some more. Talk of adding insult to injury!

Sure Lawry’s is a steak house and ain’t quite the St Regis but its repuation is still upmarket though its pretensions are nowhere as snooty!

And its service at its Singapore outlet is certainly a cut above, considering that no one sought to hurry us from our first course to the 2nd even though guests were starting to arrive for dinner!

  1. It’s supposed to be a daily promotion from 2.30pm to 5pm but they were still serving us at well over 5pm, because we kinda started late, at after 4pm. Guess they wld be flexible, tho best call to check?

  2. Hey,
I’m thinking of going here for dinner. But apparently the online menu does not have the prices. What is the food price range like? Do advice. Thanks.

  3. Why don’t u give them a call for dinner menu etc? I can’t recall offhand. Anyway, I went for tea.
